INTERVIEW WITH
HAROLD P. PRUETT
(SUPER TEEN MAGAZIN 1981.)
1.
" „NEW GUY IN TOWN!
„P” PRUETT
Blond haired „P” Pruett may only be an eleven-year-old actor, but he’s got all the trappings of a grownup superstar. „P” travels in his won chauffeur-driven limousine and flies on his won airplane, which is steered by his personal pilot. He also has a private tutor who travels with him. How did „P” come so far so fast? He claims it’s a result of his spectacular acting ability.
„P” was born in Anchorage, Alaska on April 13, 1969. His real name is Harold P. Pruett Jr. But to his friends and family he’s always been known as „P”. He made his debut in the much acclaimed TV movie Sybil. He went on to demonstrate his singing abilities on a Mac Davis special and Fernwood Tonight. He was also „saved” by Lynda Carter in an episode ofWonder Woman. He recently taped regular appearances on the Tim Conway Show.
When „P” s not working he spends much of his time taking drama and singing lessons as well as practicing tap, jazz and disco dancing. In his spare time „P” enjoys riding his skateboard and practicing one-handed pushups. His favourite food is his grandmother’s chicken and celery dipped in mustard.
„P” wants to keep his chauffeaur, airplane and all his other star trappings, and it shouldn’t be difficult because „P”’s sure he’s going to become a superstar. Write and let us know what you think of „P”. „

„HOTLINE INTERVEIEW PART II! – WITH HAROLD P. PRUETT (1980.)
THE MANY LOVES OF „P” PRUETT!
IS IT SPINACH THAT „P” DIGS AND PICKLES THAT HE HATES… OR DO WE HAVE IT BACKWARDS? FIND OUT HERE!
Talked to adorable „P” PRUETT on the Hollywood hotline, and the first topic we talked about was what he likes… and doesn’t like… about the fairer sex. You can read all about that int he currently-on-sale June issue of TEEN WORLD/TEEN LIFE, but right now „P” is going to tell you about some of the other love sin his life. Here goes . . .
Nancy: What sports do you like?
„P” : Just about all of them – football, baseball, basketball. I never got a chance to play hockey though, but my older brother used to take me to games.
Nancy: Who do you play with?
„P” : My best friend, Ricky Siegal, who lives close by, and other kids.”
3.
„P” TALKS ABOUT GIRLS, FRIENDSHIP AND BEING HIMSELF!
Chatted with adorable „P” PRUETT on the Hollywood Hotline the other morning, before he had to dash off to school, and found him to be one of the most together eleven years olds (twelve by the time you read this!) that I’ve ever come across. He’s dedicated to his career, likes to party with the fun crowd, is interested in his studies and still finds time for sports and just being a regular guy. Of course, he really likes girls, too, and the fairer sex is just what we had planned to discuss. But „P” is so easy to talk to that one topic just seemed to slide into another, and by the time we hung up our respective phones, his taste in girls was just one of the many things we babbled about. Why don’t you dig right into this super exclusive interview to dind out all, but before you do, I just want to take two seconds to thank super publicist Lori De Waal for setting the whole thing up, and to „P”, of course, just for being his neato self. And now, here’s „P” . . .
Nancy: What sports do you like?
„P” : JUst about all of them – football, baseball, basketball. I never got a chance to play hockey though, but my older brother used to take me to games.
Nancy: Who do you play with?
„P” : My best friend, Ricky Siegal, who lives close by, and other kids.
Nancy: I think one of the things that you and I are supposed to discuss this morning is you tarte in girls, so why don’t we start with that?
„P” : Sure. Well, the qualities that are important to me in a girl are personality, charm and trust. It’s important to me that I can trust them . . . and that they can trust me. Trust is one of the main things to have in a relationship.
Nancy: Are there any qualities you don’t like to see in a girl?
„P” : Yew there are. I dislike dishonesty, girls who think they’re it and snobs. I also don’t like girls with no personality – at least they’re not for me.
Nancy: Where do you like to go when you go out?
„P” : I like to go to movies, and I like to go to parties. Sometimes I take friends of mine. Meeting people is my big thing. I like to meet kids. There are ten kids, including me, working together on „The Tim Conway Show”.
Nancy: Have you always wanted to act?
„P” : Yes, ever since I was a little kid in Anchorage, Alaska, which is where I’m from . I used to watch a lot of television there. I liked Kung Fu. And somehow I just always wanted to act. Gene Kelly inspired me, Judy Garland. And I really admire Olivier. I never knew about him before – just started to get into heavy acting.
Nancy: I notice that you’re mentioning all old time stars.
„P” : I really love the old stars. I love the new stars, too, but the old stars – they just had something about them.
Nancy: Is there any particular direction you want your career to go in?
„P” : Singing, dancing, acting – I want to do it all. I want to do movies, TV, all different things. Like right now I’m in this play, „The Fortunes of Farley”.
Nancy: Yes, I know. That must be very exciting for you.
„P” : Oh yes! Very! It’s my first stage play. I’m working with some very experienced actors. They really know how to evolve a character. I’ve tried to copy them.
Nancy: You really like being around people, don’t you?
„P” : People are my thing. If you don’t have people, you don’t have yourself because you learn from different people. You watch other people and incorporate what you like into yourself – you get your style from different people.
Nancy: What are you interested in besides acting?
„P” : I love drums, sports, and I have train sets all over the house. I also like to jump around and ride bikes.
Nancy: What do you mean by jump around and ride bikes?
„P” : Oh, I jump my bike over the trampoline.
Nancy: Isn’t that scary?
„P” : Yes, at first. But I guess I’m a little bit crazy. And after I know I can do something, I just go for it.
Nancy: How does your mom feel about that?
„P” : She’s not exactly mad for it, so I don’t say, „Mom, look I just jumped over the trampoline!”
Nancy: Are you into music at all?
„P” : Believe i tor not, I’ve been trying to put a celebrity band together. I already know two people who are very good percussionists – Tammy O’Rouke and Raul Jackson, who are both on „The Tim Conway Show”. And Ricky Siegal and Peter Casper would be in it. So now I’m trying to find a good guitarist. I taught myself how to play the drums.
Nancy: You taught yourself?
„P” : Yes, I find it easier to teach myself. Like before the series, I would just have the nerve to do back flips on or off the trampoline, but I taught myself to do things. I was determined on the trampoline. Now I do hand springs and jump over it and everything.
Nancy: You must be very determined?
„P” : Yes I am. And a little crazy and devilish, too. I’m very into James Bond. I would like to live his life, play it in the movies . . . maybe be agent 003½.
Nancy: That would make a terrific series.
„P” : Hey, you know it would. I never thought about that. Thank you – it’s an excellent idea.
Nancy: I know you work today (taping the show) but what is your schedule usually like?
„P” : I go to school from 9:30 to 12:30, then I have lunch, then I have rehearsal and I dance till five.
Nancy: Don’t you get tired?
„P” : Oh no, I have a lot of energy. You know, I’m a kid and I get bored easily.
Nancy: Do you think you’ve had a normal childhood?
„P” : I feel that I’ve had a regular childhood.
Nancy: Do you ever miss not having to do all the things that other kids do though?
„P” : Sometimes, yes.
Nancy: Do you like to be called „P”?
„P” : I prefer Harold.
Nancy: Who calls you „P”?
„P” : My parents mostly. Some of my friends and co-workers.
Nancy: You have a birthday coming up, don’t you?
„P” : Yes, April 13th (1969).
Nancy: Are you going to have another party like last year?
„P” : No – that would be hard to top. It was fabulous. I didn’t know it would be that big – it was incredible.
Nancy: What was the best part about it?
„P” : Getting to meet new people.
That’s our „P” – he’d want to meet each and every one of his fans, if it were at all possible. ’Course it isn’t, which is why he gave us this interview, so that you could get to know him better. And now that you do, I’m sure you’ll agree that he really is a sweet „P”! "
