LOOKING INSIDE
THE OUTSIDERS!
Turning a well-known movie into a TV series is not an easy task. And it's especially difficult when the movie's cast included such handsome and talented actors as Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, and Rob Lowe.
So, the producers of the Tv show The Outsidersknew they where faced with the major challenge of finding actors equal to the 1983 movie cast. After an extensive search and many auditions, the producers selected a group of actors who are just as exciting and talented as the established film actors.
Fifteen-year-old Jay Ferguson heads the cast as "Ponyboy Curtis". It is through his eyes that the lessons of friendship, family loyalty and the struggles between the rich and poor unfold each Sunday night.
"I'm not the star!"
Although the show frequently centers around "Ponyboy", hazel-eyed Jay doesn't see himself as more important than the other cast members. "I'm not the star!" exclaims the Dallas, Texas native.
Jay is more than happy to share the spotlight with his castmates, whom include 18-year-old Davic Arquette ("Two-Bit"), Harold Pruett, age 21, as "Steve", 22-year-old Rodney Harvey as "Sodapop", 24-year-old Robert Rusler ("Tim"), and Boyd Kestner as "Darrell", who is 24.
Jay acknowledges that event though his castmates tease and pick on him because he's the youngest actor on the set, they're still great to work with.
If you like guys who are cute, sensitive and a bit on the tough side, then you're probably already a fan of TV's
The Outsiders!
"I'm like their little punching bag," jokes Jay. "They keep me in line". With the exception of Robert Rusler, who starred in the 1989 movie Shang and 1985's Weird Science, and Rodney Harvey, who appeared in the 1988 film Salsa, this is the first major acting project for the cast.
Of course, the guys love working on the series, but they've had to make a few sacrifices in their personal lives.
"David, Harold and I had to break up with our girlfriends because we became too busy with work to have a relationship", reveals brown-haired Rodney. "It just wasn't fair to them."
But, when these talented young actors do have free time, they enjoy shooting a game of pool together or going dancing with friends.
"The show is fun, because....."
"We have a great relationship", remarks blue-eyed Boyd. "Working on the show is fun because we all get along so well."
